Several wooden boards, which lined the ships base, creaked as an oddly fashioned teenage female strode calmly past, not daring to glance over toward the small crowd of people that were gathered around the ships mast. They were staring at her, she knew, for she doubted that the residents of the ship, and even the entire Celeste Region, had seen someone as peculiarly dressed as her. She was dressed head to toe, in black, which could be classified as "Gothic" wear, if you bothered to give her the appropriate label, and from what she could see, she was correct. Shaking her head just slightly, she quickened her pace, allowing the fresh scent of the salty tang of the sea, to flood her nostrils, and calm her nerves.
This would be the very day, that she, Valencia Calderson, would finally receive her very first Pokemon, also known as her starter Pokemon. She had been awaiting this day ever since she was a young child, who had been forced to stay away from the very creatures that her parents deemed "disgusting", and "dangerous", and were quite frankly nothing more than a distraction, according to her mother and father themselves. Interaction between both her, and Pokemon had been nearly impossible, and in order to achieve her greatest dreams, she knew she'd have to depart from home, and find a place where she would be free to do as she chose. Luckily for Vale, this very place was Celeste.
No one was here to stop her now, and with a determined flame within herself, Vale reached for the glass doors which led into one of the many hall ways of the laboratory, only to watch as the doors opened manually, sensing her presence before she had the chance to open them herself. Well that's convenient. She thought to herself, stepping inside the extremely bright building. Both the walls, and the floors of the establishment were white in color, as were the lab coats of the various assistants that were hustling by, clearly busy with their work. Shrugging, Vale walked further down the hall way, making sure not to run into any of the assistants as she did so. The last thing she wanted was to screw up the Professors research, for she might never receive a Pokemon if that were to happen. She wasn't about to let her dream die out so easily after all.
Finally, Valencia spotted a staircase on the other side of the building, which she knew could only lead to one place. The professors laboratory. As calmly as she could, she headed toward the equally white stairs, hearing strange elevator-like music as she drew closer. Slowly, she ascended the stairs, glancing over her shoulders one last time, to watch as one of the assistants eagerly strode across the hallway, a stack of papers in his hands. They must be really busy. Vale sighed for a moment, remembering how busy she had been as a child. She had to work non stop as well, and she knew exactly how the assistants felt. It wasn't easy for her either, but she had managed, and she knew they would as well. They were working for the Professor after all.
The final glass door opened before her, and nimbly, Valencia stepped into what she knew, was the Professors lab. Unsurprisingly, was the color scheme of the laboratory. White, white, and more white. Vale knew she had to stick out like a sore thumb, with her dark attire, and all. Like-wise, she simply stood at the lab entrance, her eyes observing the mechanical looking gadgets and computers that filled the lab. All of the objects looked pretty high tech, almost to the point that she was afraid to leave that very spot, in case she happened to accidentally bump into something. Not daring to take any chances, Vale stayed completely silence, her eyes searching for the professor. She figured it would be best if she allowed the Professor to greet her first. She didn't want to frighten him after all.

A couple minutes after Valencia entered the room the lights dimmed to a near black. The commonly known Darth Vader song began to play, and three spot lights roved around the laboratory. Fog machines kicked into action, and when the spot lights centered on a specific tile it began to rise from the ground, revealing a grinning Ryan Seacrest Professor Douglas Fir. He walked over to Valencia while using a small phone-like object to turn off of the various devices electronically, although the fog would still remain on the ground for a couple for minutes.
"Did you like it?" he asked, "I've been putting it together for a month or so in case I ever have to do a reality TV show. Like, PTV's "Cribs," but for my lab. Anyway, you said you were here for a starter, so which one do you want? We carry all starters from Professors Oak, Elm, Birch, and Rowan, plus a few more."

Darkness. Without a single warning, the light in the room had dimmed into a near, incomprehensible black, and Valencia was left to stand completely stilled, her eyes adjusting to the sudden darkness. She certainly hadn't expected everything to become so dark so quickly, but then again, she liked the dark, so hey, she couldn't really complain. However, when strange music, classified as the theme of Darth Vader, began to play, and three spot lights moved about the laboratory, Vale knew something strange was happening, and she was almost tempted to leave. Then, as if answering her presumptions, several fog machines kicked on, while the spot lights centered on a specific tile on the ground, revealing the grinning Pokemon Professor, she had been waiting to see.
By now, Vale's facial expressions were that of a clearly confused, and slightly irritated young teenager, and when Prof. Douglas Fir began walking toward her, she took in a deep breath, hoping he wasn't just some kind of impersonator or something. Fortunately for her, however, he turned off the electronic devices, by using a phone like object that was gripped in his hand.
Valencia's eyebrows creased at the professor's question, and while she really wasn't one to be polite, supposedly, this was the man that would be giving her, her first Pokemon, so she tried to stay as respectful as possible when talking to him, even if he was undoubtedly strange. As nicely as she could, she replied. "Oh yes, that was... wonderful." She faked a smile, although she was sure it looked somewhat genuine, before continuing on. "I'd like a Treecko if you don't mind..."

The professor, seeing her unenthusiastic response, cocked an eyebrow, twitched a little bit, and then breathed out deeply. After a couple minutes of just breathing in and out he retrieved a stress-relief ball and began quickly clenching and unclenching, producing a loud squeaking sound as he talked. "A Treecko?", why of -squeak squeak squeak- course I can get you a -squeak squeak squeak- Treecko!" He turned to his magical multicolored wall and pressed a green button in the third wall, squeaking the entire time. He handed Valencia the ball and then abruptly tossed her a backpack he pulled from a nearby cabinet. He pointed at each and said, "Treeko in green ball," and "Items in backpack. Have fun and enjoy your trip. Ra, ra, traveling." After that he turned around and just left, walking back into his study and closing the oak doors behind him.
