How Celeste Works - |Mechanic Part #1 [The XP System]|
The XP, or Experience Point, system is divided into two separate classes: Direct XP and Indirect XP. Direct XP is earned from battling. When you're Pokémon participates in a battle, he/she will gain XP from it. Direct XP can only be applied to the Pokémon that earned it from battling, and no one else. On the other hand, Indirect XP is earned from doing stuff around the site. Winning a contest, having your idea be chosen for application to the site, and even just posting good threads can get you Indirect XP. However, it also functions differently. Indirect XP can be applied to any Pokémon you own. However, how many levels a single Point gets you also differs between Direct and Indirect. In direct, a single point is a single level. Always. How many points you get differs, but a single point is always a single level. Indirect XP, on the other hand, loses it's usefulness over time. For Pokémon levels 1-33, it takes 1 Indirect XP to raise a level. Pokémon levels 34-66, it takes 2 Indirect XP to raise a level. For Pokémon levels 67-99, it takes 3 Indirect XP to raise a level. And for Pokémon that are level 100, they can't level up, and therefore don't need any.
